DRAFT PICKS:
Tyler Hansbrough, F, 6-9, North Carolina (first round) -- Pacers love Hansbrough's energy. He's been described as a young Jeff Foster with a better offensive game. Hansbrough's arrival means the Pacers are more likely to try to trade Foster. A.J. Price, G, 6-2, Connecticut (second round) -- Price is a long shot to make the team since the Pacers already have two point guards on the roster and could have a third one if they re-sign Jarrett Jack.
PLAYER NEWS:
--SG Brandon Rush has a message for Mike Dunleavy and Dahntay Jones: He has no intention of giving up his starting position to either one of those players. "That's my mindset," Rush said. "I worked hard for the spot I'm in right now, and I'm not going to get rid of it. I'm going to keep fighting and fighting to get better with a maximum effort." Rush, who has dealt with confidence issues at times, ended his rookie season on a tear. He shot 54 percent and averaged 17.4 points in the last 12 games. He had five games of at least 21 points in that span. "That stretch of games was a big deal for me because it let me get comfortable and confident," Rush said. "I was playing the type of game I've been playing my whole life pretty much."
--PF Tyler Hansbrough quickly let his new teammates know he means business when he steps on the court. The 13th pick in last month's draft went several days before he cracked a smile during the team's rookie/free agent camp. "I haven't seen him smile yet," guard Brandon Rush said. "He's so quiet. He's completely serious when he's out there. He gives 100 percent every time he plays. He's like the Energizer bunny. He's going to be a good addition for us." Hansbrough has already shown he's more athletic than what people perceive him to be. "He's definitely athletic," C Roy Hibbert said. "The first day he was dunking everything. After like seven hours of practice, his legs gave out a little bit. He goes after the boards and he's just not letting the ball hit the ground. He can shoot, too. People will see what Tyler has to offer soon enough."
MEDICAL WATCH:
--SG Mike Dunleavy is out indefinitely after undergoing right knee surgery in March.
