Indiana Pacers Notes, Quotes 2008-07-26
--T.J. Ford and Jarrett Jack are the Pacers' top two point guards, but that doesn't mean they won't play together in the backcourt at the same time.

Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said he plans to use the two together -- with Jack at shooting guard -- to help give them quickness next season.

"There's already been some talk or visions of me and T.J. playing in the backcourt together out there on the floor," Jack said. "I don't think that can do anything but help the pace that coach really wants to play at."

Jack won't get a lot of minutes for offense, but rather for his defense.

"I think one of the main reasons I was brought here was to bring some toughness as far as on the defensive end," Jack said. "I think that's something I can definitely bring. With all of us, like coach said, we've got seven new guys. I'm just looking forward to us going together as a cohesive unit throughout the course of the season."

--The Pacers are on the prowl to get help in the frontcourt. Team president Larry Bird hopes to acquire a power forward before training camp starts in late September.

"As we made deals, we knew we were probably going to have an area that we needed to still address, and right now it's a power forward that can score down low," Bird said. "Hopefully, we're not done this summer."

Bird will likely have to fill the hole at power forward through a trade, because the Pacers currently have 16 players under contract, which is one more than the league allows during the season. The Pacers have expiring contracts and a $2.7 million trade exception to offer teams.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "While Shawne Williams was not involved in any arrest or any criminal wrongdoing, we are extremely upset and hugely disappointed he once again has put himself in a position that jeopardizes Shawne's future as a member of the Indiana Pacers." -- Pacers president Larry Bird, on F Shawne Williams being at the scene where one of his friends was arrested.
