Indiana Pacers Notes, Quotes 2008-06-30
--Pacers team president Larry Bird can't officially comment on it, but he's making the right moves to get better.

Bird, in his first season with full complete control of basketball operations, agreed to two trades that landed him seven players.

Bird won't publicly say it, but the Pacers, who have missed the playoffs the last two seasons, are rebuilding.

The Pacers acquired Portland point guard Jarrett Jack, forward Josh McRoberts and first-round draft pick Brandon Rush, and Toronto point guard T.J. Ford, center Rasho Nesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and first-round pick Roy Hibbert.

"I think we got more athletic," Bird said. "I think we got some size, or Toronto got some size, and next year we got some cap space."

--Pacers president Larry Bird has had complete control of basketball operations for just a couple of months. In that short time, though, the Hall of Fame player is letting it be known that he's putting his foot down with all the off-the-court problems the franchise has faced the past couple of years.

When asked where small forward Shawne Williams, who has been part of the off-the-court problems, stood with the franchise, Bird responded, "He's on very thin ice."

Bird told Williams and his agent that they will look to trade him if they can get something in return this summer.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I know the franchise is going in the right direction, and that's just a step because next summer it puts us in a position to do a lot of things. The Pacers' future looks brighter today than it did a few days ago." -- Pacers president Larry Bird after acquiring seven players in two trades.
